A group of 9 4Aviation travellers visited the East Coast of the United States between 14 and 24 May 2010.
May, is a nice time to go to either coast of the United States. The weather is usually good and it is ‘airshow’-season. Andrews AFB (MD) and MCAS Cherry Point (NC) were chosen as the start and finish point of a 10 day military trip. On Friday 14 May 2010, seven Dutch guys boarded a British Airways plane in Amsterdam and were joined by Simon, from the UK, at Heathrow and Pierluigi, from Italy, in Washington. Unfortunately a tenth guy had to cancel last minute due to personal circumstances. The flight to Washington suffered a small delay during departure, but this increased a lot when heavy thunderstorms developed over New York City. After two circles over Poughkeepsie we headed for a fuel stop at Bradley IAP (CT). Once the home of the Connecticut Guard A-10 squadron, the place was quite active with civil traffic, but nothing military was seen. After about a four hour delay we arrived in Washington. Because of this late hour, and the darkness, there was no time to check the locals and visitors. As usual, the personnel at the car Rental Company and hotel do not appear the brightest. Despite making reservations, and giving all necessary data in advance on-line, the whole process had to be done again. And when one of the assigned rooms is already occupied by other guest, the clerk had no clue as what has happened and what to do.
