When earlier in 2019 information surfaced about a show in Lithuania in July, it was clear very soon after that 4Aviation had to be there as well. As a result the tour to Lithuania started on Thursday 25 July with an Air Baltic flight from Amsterdam to Riga (Latvia that is). On board of the Airbus 220 were seven of the eight participants of the tour. The last participant was met at Riga after landing.
The first destination, after collecting the rental car, was Tukums airport. This civilian airport (which appeared closed or ‘in storage’) is home to the Baltic Bees, a museum and a couple of interesting stored aircraft. The museum aircraft, part of a museum called Air-Zoo (with all its aircraft painted in remarkable colour schemes), were parked on the platform next to the terminal. The stored Il-62 could not be reached but the Il-18 was in a good spot (next to the Zebra-Yak-40).
After our visit to Tukums we drove to our hotel in Šiauliai. The only left for today was some food and a couple of drinks. We found a good place for that near the hotel.
