On Friday 11 June a group of aviation enthusiasts departed from Utrecht by bus to Berlin. After a short stop at Apeldoorn, to pick up the remainder of the group, we headed for Berlin. The journey went well and we were at the gates of the ILA in time.
The bi-annual show at Berlin- Schönefeld features a mix of Warbirds, civil aircraft and military hardware. Highlights of this edition were the Airbus A380, a Serb An-26 and an EC145 of the Lithuanian Border Guard. The weather did not play ball all the time, but a lot of pictures were made anyway. By the end of the show the group gathered again and went to the nearby restaurant to enjoy German cuisine and some well earned drinks!
After dinner the group was brought to the nearby hotel. The next morning, a visit was paid to the large aviation museum at Berlin-Gatow. This museum gives a perfect overview of military aviation history in Germany. The weather was much better, so a lot of pictures were made this morning. Around noon, the group headed back to the Netherlands. Unfortunately, we stranded in two massive traffic jams. With help from the driver and an extra “train stop“ at Deventer, everybody made it home ´in time´.
