On Friday, 6 September the coach of Munckhof Reizen was well in time to travel to a new 4Aviation destination. The small airport of Hahnweide , near Kircheim unter Teck, was scheduled for the Oldtimer Fliegertreffen 2013 (OTT). Although it is a small airport with only two grass strips, during the three -day event, more than 350 aircraft come to visit. On display were some old gliders, many aircraft from the light aviation, many ‘Warbirds’ as Piaggio ‘s, Harvards, the Red Bull collection, Mustangs, a Hurricane and a few more larger participants as eight An-2s, five Ju- 52s (unfortunately only two during our visit), a Noratlas and some fine specimens from the DeHavilland family .
After all travellers had boarded in Eindhoven, Rosmalen, De Meern and Utrecht CS, the trip to the south began in the large bus. After a successful trip we arrived at the airport at 6:30. That was not a problem as only fifteen minutes later we had bought the entrance tickets and everyone could start our beautiful day.
From 07.00 until 09.00 the flight line was open and we had access to all the parked aircraft. From 9.00 until just before 11.00 am there were still dozens of visiting aircraft for the OTT. Because of the rolling countryside surrounding Hahnweide there are unique photo opportunities. Often it seems you were taking air-to-air taking pictures. The backgrounds are breath-taking. And as often at a smaller airport the atmosphere was relaxed and easy going.
Around 11.00 am the demonstrations in the air began with some solo demonstrations, but frequently several beautiful old aircraft went up to together to give a show. There was also the opportunity to get a maiden flight into different aircraft: An-2, DH-89 Dominie, Ju-52, MH-1521 Broussard and more.
The air show lasted until late into the night with the last aircraft going up around 20.00 pm and then we had the opportunity to visit the aircraft on the flight line with artificial light.
Our bus left on time and with a few breaks for the driver, all arrived tired, but satisfied, very early Sunday morning in the Netherlands.
This destination was unknown to many, but hopefully not anymore. We will definitely schedule this show for 2015 again.
